Durdle Door - Paradise in Dorset

It looks more like a Caribbean beach. This is unsurprising that a scene from “Pirates of the Caribbean” was shot in this area. In addition, this magnificent natural limestone arch is one of Britain’s most iconic landscapes. Consequently, this place attracts a lot of tourists every year.

Because of its geology, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the most important areas in the United Kingdom. You can admire here rocks from the Cretaceous, Triassic, and Jurassic periods that are 185 million-years old.

I think it’s worth going there while the limestone arch still exists. Geologists predict that it will erode completely over time. Durdle Door is the best place to look for fossils in the UK. Imagine finding dinosaur bones in this area…

A smaller cove – Stair Hole is located just to the west of Lulworth Cove. If you want to understand how erosion is shaping the coast you should check out this place. You can see all the stages of erosion for example cracks and connections in limestone, caves, holes, and arches.
