How to get to Blackpool?
🚆 BY TRAIN
You can get to Blackpool North from Manchester Piccadilly or Liverpool Lime Street train station in 1 hour 20 minutes. Then, it is a 0,6 mile walk to the Blackpool Tower which should not take more than 15 minutes.

📍 Central Car Park: Central Dr, Blackpool FY1 5QE
One of the most convinient car parks in Blackpool is Central Car Park. It is only 5 minutes walk from Blackpool Tower. We always try to park there if we want to visit Blackpool beach. However, during Lightpool Festival car park gets full quickly so we recommend considering another parking spots.
📍 South Car Park: Yeadon Way, Blackpool FY1 6BF
If you struggle to find a free parking space in Blackpool, consider parking at South Car Park. You will be sure to find parking spaces during famous events in Blackpool such as Airshow or Lightpool. However the car park is a 30 minute walk from Blackpool Tower so be prepared to walk.
📍 Caunce Street/Church Street Car Park: Cookson St, Blackpool FY1 3DR
There are many car parks in Blackpool, but finding space is not always easy. While we were driving around the town trying to find free space we discovered Caunce Street/Church Street Car Park. It is only 12 minutes walk from Blackpool Tower and may be the best option to choose if you planning to see Blackpool Illuminations. You can find more car parks in Blackpool here.

History of Blackpool Illuminations
The Blackpool Illuminations began in 1879 when the town council installed eight electric arc lamps on the promenade to celebrate the switching on of the newly constructed promenade’s electric lighting system.
However, illuminations that most resemble those of today debuted in May 1912, coinciding with the first royal visit to Blackpool, when Princess Louise inaugurated Princess Parade, a newly named promenade.
The light show was halted for a total of eleven years due to the commencement of the First World War in 1914. Blackpool Illuminations returned for good in 1950s with a new feature – the “Switch-On” ceremony.
Comedian Ken Dodd whose mural you can find in Liverpool is among the celebrities who have pressed Switch-On button in 1966. English singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor or American filmmaker Tim Burton are only a few another examples of famous people who have also switched on the Blackpool Illuminations.

From glowing Blackpool sign, light tunnel to interactive light displays, the Lightpool trail is a true feast for the senses. Whether you’re a local or a tourist, the Tower Festival Headland is a must-see destination that is sure to leave you with unforgettable memories.
The water environment and sea corals served as inspiration for the light sculpture known as Parabolic Cloud. 800 metres of woven rope made from recyclable plastic bottle waste were used to create this light cloud, which has over 1000 LED lights and 20 different light animations.
The Fibonacci spiral, a mathematical sequence that occurs naturally and is thought to be the golden ratio for the ideal equilibrium in all living things, is referenced in the design of the parabolic cloud itself.
Nearby Blackpool Church – St John’s we spotted a cage with animals changing from owl to fish. Kids loved this attraction in particular by imagining throwing spells on the cage to switch animals. There is no doubt that there is a lot of magic in Blackpool, especially during autumn and winter.
However, what brought most of the kids attention was Medusae light installation. A captivating jellyfishes over their heads allowed them to immerse in sea world full of light and colours.
