In 1981, a man suffering from psoriasis obtained permission to swim in the lagoon. It turned out that algae in the water can do miracles. Six years later geothermal spa has been open. Initially, Blue Lagoon was visited by people with skin problems. However, the great location, just 15 km from the Keflavik airport, has made it the most-visited destination by tourists nowadays.
